Televised classes: Cable
Cable classes are shown on either HCC-TV (also called the Houston Educational Access Channel) or on Cougar Cable, depending on whether the course schedule lists the location as CABLE-OFF or CABLE-ON. Before you register for a cable class, read the information below carefully to determine if you will be able to view the lectures.
The instructor determines the assignment schedule and may also require you visit the main campus occasionally for exams or class meetings.
The calendars of lecture times for Cable classes are posted on this website in the "Courses" section as soon as they are available each semester.
CABLE-ON (Cougar Cable) requirements
For classes with a location designated as CABLE-ON in the course schedule, you must have:
- Access to Cougar Cable. Cougar Cable is only available on campus in U.H. dorms and some U.H. apartments. (Cougar Cable is not available in Cambridge Oaks apartments.)
- Ability to watch or record the class when it is played on Cougar Cable.
- Current contact information and an email address on file with the Distance Education Student Services office.
- The student services staff will email you any urgent information about your class when needed.
CABLE-OFF (HCC-TV) requirements
For classes with a location designated as CABLE-OFF in the course schedule, you must have:
- Access to HCC-TV (also called the Houston Educational Access Channel) on cable television. Check with your cable provider to find out if you have this channel. Note that it is NOT the same as Houston PBS.
- A location to view or record class lectures that is in the city of Houston, Bellaire, or West University Place. If you live anywhere except in these cities you may not be able to view class lectures, even if your cable company carries the right channel. This limitation applies if you live outside the city perimeter, but also if you live in an independently incorporated city such as Piney Point, Bunker Hill, etc.
- Current contact information and an email address on file with the Distance Education Student Services office.
- The student services staff will email you any urgent information about your class when needed.
