UH DE offers classes via the following formats:
Classes completed via the web, typically using Blackboard, another web-based course management system (i.e. CourseWare for several Math classes and CourseCompass for several History classes), or an instructor's website.
Classes taught at UH with students participating via videoconference from off-site teaching centers in the Greater Houston area.
Traditional classes taught at Community Campuses in the Greater Houston area.
Classes generally taught 50% in a traditional face-to-face classroom, and 50% through other means, usually online.
Some DE classes might require occasional visits to campus for exams or meetings.
For students that live outside the Houston area, contact the instructor to determine if the class you want requires exams or meetings on campus. The instructor has the option of waiving these meetings and allowing students to have their exams proctored at a location in your area.
Although most instructors make these exceptions, be sure that you ask the instructor for permission prior to registering for DE classes. While some instructors will handle proctoring duties themselves, others may utilize DE Student Services staff.
