The registration process for DE is the same as for all UH classes, and you can do so through PeopleSoft, or myUH.
Through myUH, you can change your address, check your admission status, view the class schedule, add or drop classes, check your financial account status, make payments, check your grades, and request transcripts.
To select classes, review the schedules for courses that meet your requirements. Consult an advisor if you need help.
When selecting a DE class, make sure you understand the class format (i.e. online, interactive television, hybrid, face-to-face at an off-campus teaching center) and what you will need to access the class. For any questions regarding this, contact Distance Education Student Services at 713-743-3327.
If you live outside Houston, consider whether or not the class you want requires exams or meetings on campus, and contact the instructor to find out. If exams will take place on campus, you can ask the instructor for permission to have the exams proctored at a location in your area. Most instructors will allow for your exams to be proctored if given appropriate notice. The best time to request proctored exams is before you register. Contact DE Student Services if you are choosing to have exams proctored and need further assistance.
Registration dates vary by semester and student classification (i.e. freshman, sophomore, etc.). Find general registration appointments using the Enrollment Schedule. Current students can find their specific enrollment appointment through myUH.
Once the initial registration period is over, you can register any time before the last deadline. Registration for each semester typically closes on the sixth class day, but view the Academic Calendar to find the last day to add a course via myUH.
Register as early as possible. Early registration improves the chances you’ll get the courses you need, and gives you plenty of time to prepare for your DE classes. Check the schedule frequently, as classes are often added or changed throughout the registration period. Make sure that you’re aware of approaching deadlines.
Consult an advisor early. Advisors in DE or in your major department can help you select classes. Advisors help you plan your course of study and obtain required approvals at certain milestones in your path toward graduation. Depending on your situation, you may need to talk to more than one advisor.
Check the Undergraduate Catalog or Graduate Catalog for prerequisites and course descriptions. Do not enroll in a class if you lack the required prerequisites.
Beginning in Fall 2009, undergraduate students are now able to drop their classes through their myUH.
For more information on the dates and procedure for dropping courses, please visit the Enrollment page of the Undergraduate Catalog.
Note: This procedure is designed for DE graduate students that are unable to come to campus to initiate drops or because the instructors are unavailable via face-to-face. If possible, students can still begin and finish the drop procedures for DE classes while on campus.
The following steps outline the process for distance education students to drop a class or withdraw with a W without coming to campus. During the Fall and Spring semesters, students can drop classes or withdraw without receiving a grade prior to the twelfth class day through PeopleSoft, or myUH. During the Summer, students only have until the fourth class day to drop classes or withdraw without receiving a grade.
For more information on the dates for dropping courses, please visit the UH Academic Calendar.
